Expression should be intelligent.

Eyes are moderate size, set apart, almond shaped and dark brown to light amber in color. Dark brown eyes with black rims are preferred. Blue eyes or eyes of two different colors are a disqualification.  Eye rims will be black or gray and without sag or looseness of haw. A dark apostrophe-shaped accent mark at the inner corner of the eyes is preferred.

The ears should be set no higher than the plane of the head.  They should be well-furred, medium sized with a rounded apex, and set wide apart on the head.  The ear leather is thick from base to tip.  Ears can be down, prick, or helicopter with matching down ears being preferred.  Ears have the ability to move, and matching ears are preferred.

The skull is broad and slightly domed.  When viewed from the side, the bridge of the muzzle is slightly Roman and roughly parallel to the top of the skull.  The muzzle is moderately deep and not pointed.  The length from the tip of nose to the center of the stop is slightly shorter than the length of the skull from stop to occiput.

The stop is moderate.  There is a slight centerline furrow, from apparent stop to moderate occiput, broader in dogs than in bitches.  The skin is free of wrinkles and the cheeks have a slightly chiseled appearance.

Nose and flews must be solid black or gray with black being preferred.  The nose is large, always solid black, and projects over the mouth.  Seasonal fading (snow nose) is not to be penalized.  Incomplete pigment is a fault.  Flews are normally dry but pronounced enough to contribute to squaring the overall muzzle appearance.  The top lip overhangs the lower lip slightly and the corners of the lower lip are slightly pendulous.

Teeth and gums are strong and healthy. The teeth meet in a scissor bite.  Broken teeth are not to be faulted.

Faults-Overshot or undershot bite.
